Careers rarely begin with a plan. This one began with a swap between two kids: a skateboard handed over, a tattoo machine received. In his own words: “I gave him my skateboard, and he gave me his tattoo machine in return. I traded skating for tattooing.”

What followed was not a course or an apprenticeship with a syllabus. It was empirical learning: drawing, tattooing, watching, failing, repeating, at a time when, as he puts it, “we didn't have the resources and knowledge available today.”

That beginning still defines the work: a craft learned by hand keeps its respect for fundamentals. Lines first. Shortcuts never.

Convention awards are working proof: a jury of peers, a category, a finished piece on real skin, judged the day it is shown. In 2022, at the NY Empire State Tattoo Expo, a Traditional piece by Dymon Jimenez took 1st Place, Best Traditional.

The result traveled: independent Colombian press covered the win, tying an Ibagué-born artist to a New York podium. That coverage, not the trophy, is what makes the claim durable; it can be checked.

The same year added a 3rd Place, Best Color, at Inked Out New Jersey. Two categories, two languages, one signature.

Versatility earns suspicion in tattooing, often deserved. Doing everything usually means mastering nothing. The exception is the old-school education: learn every style because the era demanded it, then keep the ones you can defend.

“I define my style as versatile because I am an old-school artist and learned to do all styles. Nowadays, I focus on four: Neo-Oriental, Traditional, Color, and Black & Grey.”

Four languages is not a menu; it is a discipline. Each one is studied on its own terms, and the same hand holds them to the same standard. That consistency, not any single style, is the signature.
